The Pinecone Forest Nature Sanctuary is located in the picturesque Madawaska Valley of eastern Ontario—at the head of Conroys Marsh and on the banks of the York River. On the map, the Forest can be found north-east of Bancroft and south-west of Combermere. The Forest is less than a one hour drive from the east gate of Algonquin Provincial Park, about 2 1/2 hours west of Ottawa and 3 hours north-east of Toronto (4 hours from downtown). We are located at 691 Pinecrest Road in Carlow Township.

From Bancroft, take Hwy. 28 east to McArthur’s Mills, just after the bridge turn left (north) onto the Boulter Road. Go through Boulter, cross the iron bridge spanning the York River at Slabtown, then turn right (at the Landfill sign) onto Pinecrest Road.

From Combermere, take Renfrew County Hwy. 517 (Dafoe Road) to its end. At the T-junction, turn left onto the Boulter Road. After a short distance, turn left onto Pinecrest Road.

From Maynooth, take Hwy. 62 east, and go through Maple Leaf, to the gas station (a couple of kilometres past Maple Leaf). Turn right onto the Boulter Rd. Stay on the Boulter Road by turning left at New Carlow towards Boulter. A short distance after you pass the end of Hwy. 517, turn left onto Pinecrest Rd.
